You'd think an 83% victory at the polls is all you need to get a project approved and built. But American Canyon's Town Center project can't catch a break, sometimes.
The latest challenge is the staff report and recommendations from the Napa County Local Agency Formation Commission, or LAFCO. By law, LAFCO has to review every community in Napa County on a five year cycle. This is American Canyon's second five year report. In this report, LAFCO staff recommended against amending the Sphere of Influence to include the extra land needed for the Town Center.
Fortunately, there was some concerns from the LAFCO Board members, supportive of the Town Center. Technically, staff had recommended against including a very large section of land into the City's Sphere. The area was far greater than the Town Center site.
As a result, there will be another LAFCO meeting to discuss this issue. This meeting is scheduled for Monday, May 3 at 4:00 p.m. The meeting will be in Napa, at the Board Chambers of the Napa County Administration Building located at 1195 Third Street in Napa.
We encourage everyone to attend and let LAFCO know how important the Town Center is for American Canyon.

New Bocce Ball Page Established
Now that we have a Bocce Ball Court (thanks to Clark's Rock on Green Island Road in American Canyon), we have added a separate page dedicated to Bocce Ball. We will include rules of the game, opportunities to sign up for League Play, and include team schedules and standings (once the League is up and running). Click here to go to the Bocce Ball page.
Town Hall Forums are coming! Soon?
One of IMPACT's goals for 2009 was to develop "Town Hall Forums." An opportunity to discuss local issues in depth, using local experts. The goal would be to educate the public on the nature of the problem and talk about solutions--not trying to justify a specific plan of action. Hopefully, we would be able to televise the meetings. Over time, a variety of issues could be discussed, from our local financial problems, to traffic, to the Town Center and so on.
Working with our Chamber of Commerce and the City, we were hoping to hold our first Forum on January 5, 2010. Some technical problems cropped up at the last minute and we had to postpone the first session.
We'll send out another announcement as soon as a date, time and place have been confirmed.
UPDATE: This project is on hold. We're still hopeful, and we'll send out an e-mail when the first session is scheduled.
The IMPACT Agenda
IMPACT is working on a list of local priorities and issues that are near and dear to our hearts, and that we want to make part of the City's priorities. These issues include the Town Center, making Government more Open and Interactive, Improving our Economic Base, Championing Senior Services, and so on. Click here to go to the new Agenda page.
